Beauty Tips for the Desert Environment
If you live in the UAE you know how difficult it is to keep your skin clean, hydrated and young. Pollution, dust, humidity and the harsh rays of the sun team up to destroy skin cells. Unprotected skin can develop wrinkles, start to sag and develop sunspots or cancerous lesions. Caring for your skin regularly will keep wrinkles and spots at bay, leading to soft and supple skin leaving you looking radiant and youthful.
The desert can be a difficult place to live especially during summer months. Water, which makes up 75% of the skin can quickly be drawn from the skin cells due to the strong rays of the sun and powerful air-conditioning. The simplest way to hydrate your skin is to drink plenty of water and avoid too many caffeinated beverages, which lead to dehydration. Applying a face oil each night before sleeping will also add moisture to your skin.
Your skin will generally change during summer and winter months, depending on your skin type. If your skin is normal to dry it can become dehydrated. If your skin is more on the oily side then the oiliness can increase because of excess heat and perspiration. We recommend changing your skincare products throughout the year depending on how the weather effects your skin. Don’t forget to regularly exfoliate to remove any build-up of pollution on the skin.
Never leave your skin without sun protection anywhere, especially in the desert as the sun is one of the largest contributors of skin damage! Hats with large brims will protect your face and eyes. Large sunglasses will protect the delicate eye area and it is important tool to use is sun-screen (SPF.) We suggest purchasing facial and body moisturizers that include SPF.
We always tend to focus more on our face but don’t forget the rest of your body! Regular exfoliation will help remove any dull dry skin. Body products such as oils and creams work effectively. Exfoliation will also boost circulation and help produce more collagen in the skin and we strongly recommend moisturizing every day!
Your hair also requires special care during the harsh summer season. Drier air from air-conditioning means your hair might get dry, plus humidity can cause frizzy, untamed hair – nobody wants that! Use a moisturizing shampoo and conditioner and remember to regularly deeply condition with a good hair-masque or in-salon treatment. We always suggest that you use heat-protectants on your hair before you use any styling tools to create a barrier between your hair and heat tool.
Last but not least don’t forget your nails and cuticle area! They tend to become very dry and brittle, so nourish this area with an enriching cuticle oil, and treat yourself to a regular nail treatment (with our beauty specialists!) which includes a scrub and masque for super soft, supple hands and feet.
